Orbit Fab appointed a new chief executive and secured additional funding to accelerate development of its satellite refueling service, a technology that extends spacecraft operational life and reduces debris in orbit.

The company, which specializes in in-orbit refueling infrastructure, operates the Rapidly Manufactured Fuel Depot (RAFMD) shuttle. This vehicle delivers propellant to satellites in low Earth orbit, enabling operators to extend missions by years rather than months and defer costly replacements.

The leadership transition and capital raise strengthen Orbit Fab's position in the emerging on-orbit servicing market. Satellite operators face mounting pressure to maximize asset lifespan while managing orbital congestion. Refueling addresses both constraints by replenishing spent propellant reserves that would otherwise force decommissioning.

Orbit Fab's RAFMD uses the company's proprietary Quick Disconnect (QD) fuel transfer interface, which standardizes connections between depot vehicles and customer satellites. This modular approach allows operators across multiple spacecraft platforms to access refueling services without redesigning fuel systems.

The on-orbit refueling sector represents a broader shift toward circular economy practices in space. By extending satellite lifespans, operators reduce launch cadence and mitigate the proliferation of defunct spacecraft that contribute to collision hazards. The European Space Agency and Department of Defense have both prioritized orbital servicing capabilities.

Orbit Fab competes alongside emerging players developing autonomous docking systems and propellant transfer mechanisms. The company has already demonstrated RAFMD capabilities with customer missions, validating the technical foundation for sustained operations.

The funding infusion supports expansion of manufacturing capacity and demonstration missions with additional satellite operators. Orbit Fab targets commercial constellation operators, government agencies, and geosynchronous communications satellite owners as primary customers.

This capital raise positions the company to move beyond proof-of-concept toward routine refueling operations.
