A photograph captured from Hautacam, France in April shows Comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) displaying impressive ion and dust tails, with a meteor streak in the foreground. The comet sits far behind the meteor in the image. While many meteors originate from comets, matching specific meteors to their parent bodies remains difficult, given thousands of comets have visited the inner Solar System recently.

The colorful foreground streak may indicate a complicated composition. Sand-sized rocky debris typically produces the meteors visible to observers on Earth.

Three notable meteor showers will reach their peaks this month. The Southern Taurids are approaching their apex over the next few days, while the Northern Taurids will peak about a week later. Both originate from Comet 2P/Encke. The Leonids Meteor Shower, which originates from Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, will reach its crescendo in about two weeks and is the most famous November meteor event.
